An early 20th Century, rare Compton snakes head garden pot. The condition of the pot is commensurate with age, there are some minor hair line cracks and the odd small chip but generally in good condition, see photographs. It is stamped and has the potters initials R.W.

It is also stamped by the Potter's Art Guild (Mrs. GF (Mary Seton) Watts Potteries), Compton, Surrey. Watts and Jekyll were leaders of the feminist Home Arts Movement in England, begun in the late 19th century.
The stamp of the Compton Pottery, Guildford. The motto reads: “THEIR WORK WAS AS IT WERE A WHEEL IN THE MIDDLE OF A WHEEL”
Founded by Mary in Compton around 1900, The Potters' Arts Guild, followed the model of a medieval guild with workmen being given the opportunity to ennoble their lives through their own creative handiwork.
