A wonderful Mezzotint of George III mounted on his favourite charger Adonis, by James Ward. There is fabulous detail of the horses main, tail and bridle and of King George himself. The frame has been slightly cleaned but retains most of it’s original gilding and has it’s original glass, slight foxing to the Mezzotint. Published 1st February 1804.
On the reverse there is an extract from the London Gazette dated Sunday January 3rd 1820, announcing the death of George III. Underneath is a had written inscription. By James Ward (1769 – 1859) English printmaker and painter who was renowned for his works of animals and was elected a Royal Academician in 1811.
